Welcome to the 53rd DAGA in Darmstadt

We look forward to welcoming you to DAGA 2027 in the City of Science, Darmstadt.
With almost 40 scientific institutions, including three universities, three Fraunhofer Institutes, the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research and the European Space Operations Centre ESOC, our city is an important innovation hub in the Rhine-Main region. Numerous tech start-ups have already flourished in this environment. Culturally, Darmstadt also has much to offer. In 2021, the Mathildenhöhe was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in 1899 as an artists' colony by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, it became a site for visionary architecture and parklands, created through several exhibitions up until 1914. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous Art Nouveau villas and the Wedding Tower, which - complemented by a waveform - forms the logo of DAGA 2027. Mathildenhöhe is not far from the venue of DAGA 2027, the ‘darmstadtium’. This is named after the chemical element with atomic number 110, which was discovered at the GSI in Darmstadt in 1994. At the darmstadtium, you can once again expect a series of exciting sessions and lectures on a wide range of topics related to acoustics at DAGA 2027. Machine acoustics has a long tradition at TU Darmstadt. Since the 1960s, research into computational methods for predicting the effectiveness of noise reduction measures was spearheaded by Prof. Herbert W. Müller and later Prof. Franz Kollmann. Under their successors Prof. Rainer Nordmann, Prof. Holger Hanselka and Prof. Tobias Melz, the field of research expanded to include active systems and methods for simulating the sound radiation of machines, as well as vibroacoustic metamaterials and AI-based methods. The acoustics laboratories in the machine acoustics hall, which moved to the Lichtwiese campus in 2020, offer excellent opportunities for experimental research and cooperation with partners.

On behalf of everyone involved, we look forward to making DAGA 2027 in Darmstadt an enriching platform for creative impulses and fruitful exchange.
